At the end of chapter three the author foreshadows events that will come ahead by writing “things gotta get better” I thought. They couldn’t get any worse. I was wrong.” This states that something in the next chapter is going to be bad; something bad is going to happen to somebody in the gang. I think that something bad is going to happen to Ponyboy.

At the end of chapter three the author foreshadows the bad things that are about to happen by saying, “Things gotta get better, I figured. They couldn’t get worse. I was wrong.” This end sentence it lets us know that something bad is going to happen in the next chapter. This is a good example of foreshadowing. I think that something or somebody is going to kill Darry.
