The author uses the literary term “Flash-Back” to describe Johnny’s mugging. A Flash-Back is the insertion of an earlier event, into the time order of the story. So, they put the story of Johnny’s mugging into the story, even thought it already happened.

The author uses the literary device of Flash-back to describe Johnny’s mugging. At the first of the book the character Ponyboy briefly talks about the day that they found him slouched in the corner but they never described the mugging with much detail until the second chapter. In the second chapter the guys are having a chat and it’s like time stops. They all stop and remember the day that the found Johnnycake slouched in the corner of the lot. They ran up to him and asked him what happened, Johnny strained to tell them that the socs jumped him when he was playing football. One of them beat him pretty badly, they were wearing rings and they swole his face up. Now wherever he goes, he carry’s a six inch switchblade in his back pocket so the same thing will never happen to him again.

The author uses Flash-back to describe Johnny’s mugging because in one point of the story the author is just going on about something and than he just goes on about Johnnys mugging...

The author uses the literary term called Flash-back to describe Johnny’s mugging. At the beginning of the book Ponyboy begins to describe when the whole gang found Johnny beaten and bruised in the open lot. He was half conscience and had a cut running from his temple to the top of his cheekbone. The author inserted a piece of an earlier event to describe how gruesome Johnny’s beating was.

The literary devices the author used to explain Johnny’s mugging are:
Conflict- Johnny and the Socs who beat him up could fix things out, not to the point that they are friends but just so that the socs don’t beat up the greasers anymore. They have Interpersonal Conflict, man with man
Imagery- In the story, when it talks about Johnny’s mugging it makes it sound like your actually there.
Flash-back- When you’re in the middle of the story the talks about what happened to Johnny earlier, before when he got beat up.

The literary device that the author uses to describe Johnny’s mugging is flash-back because they dont talk about where jonny got mugged in the first chapter and in the second chapter it was like everyone had a flash back at when he got mugged and they told more about when he got mugged.

The literary device that the author uses to describe Johnny’s beating/mugging would be flash-back. I would say flash-back because in my literary terms that I have in my exercise book it says that flash-back is when you put in an earlier event of the story into the time of the story. This means that when you tell something that happened in the past of the story and then you tell it in the present of the story.

3) The literary term device that the author uses in the part when Johnny gets beaten would probably be climax because it is a dramatic turning point in the story and the turning point in the story would be when Johnny got jumped because it was unexpected. FH

The literary technique that the author that used to describe Jonny’s mugging is “Flash-Back.” Flash Back is an early event that happens in the story and comes back when you see that certain objet or person. Just like when Jonny saw the blue mustang pull up towards them again because that was the same car that got him. He thought back when that happened that day when he saw it and it gave him a fright.

The literary device that the author describe Johnny's mugging with as :
1) Internal – Man with himself .
Johnny’s mugging was an internal conflict because he had to face getting beating by the socs.
2) Interpersonal – Man with man .Johnny’s mugging was an interpersonal conflict because he had to fight the socs. 3) Imagery.
In the book the author was described Johnny’s mugging very descriptive, when I read it I felt like I was there looking at Johnny, and seeing all the cuts and burses.
